One of the most fun ways to get a peek into another person’s life is to experience their city like a local would -- with a homebase in a their space. LifeSwap takes the fun of living how a stranger does one step further. We’ve teamed up with AirBnB to give you a taste of what it’s like to step into someone else’s shoes. We can safely say that this is the best giveaway of any SXSW party around.
Day 4 is about the word on every marketer’s mouth. Everyone’s focusing on it, but it’s not a focused word. What does it mean exactly? Why does it matter? And how do we do it right? Attend small group workshops about mobile ads, mobile responsive site and mobile app development. Learn about the rapid rise of mobile browsing (and what that means to us) in our interactive globe installation. And hear from Ruth McCarthy, Founder of Mobili Media, about how to get caught up -- and then get ahead.
Ever wonder what it’d be like see grassroot showcases by Brooklynites?
Melt Fest is a North Brooklyn festival for working class bands. An idea spawned by Sophie Chernin of Madam West, Elevtrtrax founder Nadeem G. Salaam, and Jhaye James of Indie Bushwick.
Here’s the scoop: a day long festival that starts at Baby’s All Right and ends at Bed-stuy’s new venue C’mon Everybody.
Tickets are $10, gets you into both events, feature drink specials, and ahead of time you can watch short docs on the artists performing and the areas they inhabit in NYC. We’re humbled to make a big move for music that moves us, and appreciate our sponsors doNYC and Soundfly.
Good times ahead.
This interview with Oh Golly took place in their Crown Heights residence, we spoke about post Pratt life, what art aspires, things they love about the collaborations of a borough, they played two songs as well so enjoy those acoustic versions of "Txt" and "Fred Astaire." The next Webepisode features Young Runner coming out this Friday March 11th!
For an entire day you'll be treated to fierce artists showcasing their talents, local indie media outlets like Sound Fly and doNYC helping with drink specials and coverage, Indie Bushwick Booking and Sophie Chernin writer for No Smoking Media/Soundfly spearheading booking and Elevtrtrax bringing you some great short-docs on these bands.
"Their fundamental affection for Elliott Smith and Wilco shines through in both the steady-eyed, phrase-conscious songcraft and the lid-bursting turns of filigree. More often than not, however, the ensemble kinks into hyperspatial, cardinal modes: D'Angelo (harmony like roux; telepathic rhythm), St. Vincent (secret, sur-pop dance; pedaled leads that nonetheless feel absolutely naked), and many more. Together they declare a project in psychedelic soul, a chamber concern with no small share in the sincere." - Pete Longofono, BIG FIGMENT
"Clean, warbly guitar lines replete with reverb/echo/delay give way to Frusciantefied, waily solos in the refrains. Classic self-assuredness defines the rhythm section: Nick Mason's fat, thick timbre married to punchy, wholesomely thudding bass, a tight unit wearing the group's trademark triple-meter grooves like your favorite slippers. Over all this, vocals rooted in slackercore swoop and slur through wry turns of lyrics buoyed every so often by sugary swells of harmony in the middle distance."
"Young Runner is an alternative rock band from Brooklyn, NY. Singer/songwriter Robert Fleming moved to Brooklyn in 2011, where he began writing music that would become the foundation of the band. Along with Patrick Grant-Musso (drums), Chris Ceballos (bass), and Richard Porteous (guitar), they create an intense but melodic blend of indie rock, often compared to New York City bands of the 1970's, grunge acts of the early 90's and guitar revivalists of the early 2000's. Delivering their tight, succinct songs at breakneck tempos, they offer a truly New York rock experience."
"A Bunch of Dead People is the vehicle for the compositions of Ruben Sindo Acosta. The music is a blend of Krautrock, Soul, Funk, Afro-Cuban Santeria, Dance Music and (the ever so prevalent) Melodramatic Popular song. The band is also a cult with new members joining everyday. Mind Above All, Heart Above All Else."
"Frog is a two person band that lives in queens. No amount of partying will ever let frog forget that, except if it does, and we wake up somewhere else. Frog plays good music, mostly about flies, female frogs, and the ups and downs of living in the swamp. Frog deeply loves eachother. Frog fails, Frog flails, Frog pales, bails, and sails through life, ailing and wailing into rock and roll history."
